Design, make, and take home your own Mondo Muse messenger bag, built entirely from upcycled outdoor gear.

Join us at the wipwrk studio in Brunswick East, Melbourne for a 4-session sewing workshop. No experience needed. Our makers guide you step-by-step through 12 hours of hands-on making, and you walk out with a one-of-a-kind crossbody bag. Every bag keeps around 2 sqr metres of outdoor gear out of landfill.

What to expect

• Session 1: Learn the machine, then build the pocket, buckles and webbing, and liner. Bring your everyday small items so you can size the pocket to fit.
• Sessions 2 & 3: Cut and customise the exterior from reclaimed fabric, build the outer pockets, and bind edges on domestic and industrial machines.
• Session 4: Make the shoulder pad, attach the straps, and add the final buckles and friction locks. Snip, burn, done.

What you'll learn

• Sewing machine foundations, including an industrial walking foot
• How to read and use sewing patterns
• How to sew technical fabrics like ripstop, nylon, XPAC and Cordura
• How to install buckles and friction locks, and make foam shoulder pads
• Creative customisation (appliqué, patches, and your own fabric from home)
