Our Triage Process

We believe in efficiency without cutting corners.

Our 4-step triage keeps materials close to home and operations flexible, stripping out the fluff while staying lean, scalable, and true to what matters

The moment of truth

Intake

Every item that comes through the workshop gets assessed, handled, and pulled apart (mentally, at least).

We’re asking a few simple questions:

  • Can this be repaired?
  • Can parts of it live on?
  • Or is it genuinely done?

Most pieces don’t fit neatly into one box.

They’re usually a mix of repair and deconstruction.

This step matters because good outcomes start with paying attention to the small details.

Keep the gear alive

Repair

Always our first preference, repairing outdoor gear is the most effective way to keep this waste out of landfill.

That can look like:

  • Patching holes
  • Re-stitching tired seams
  • Replacing broken buckles and hardware

Repair respects the original product, and the resources already spent making it.

Where the magic happens

Deconstruction

This is the heart of Wipwrk.

When something can’t be repaired, we take it apart carefully.

Panels. Zips. Webbing. Hardware.

Everything is cleaned, sorted, and organised so it’s ready to be given another story.

This is where old tents turn into bags.

Where “waste” becomes raw material again.

Where potential gets a second shot.

The honest bit

Landfill

We’ll say it plainly: we can’t save everything.

Some products are made too cheaply to repair.

Some materials just aren’t suited to the harsh Australian environment.

Some items are already past the point of safe reuse.

While this is something we actively work with the community and out partners to find solutions for, and is the smallest part of our process, it matters that we’re upfront about it.
